Internet Protocol version 4 is a revision of Internet Protocol (IP) and
even though it's been described already in 1980 it is still widely used in data communication over various
networks. The data is sent in a form of datagrams. One of the most important breakthroughs in IPv4 is the
fact it can be used regardless of the technology utilized for connecting the network device—be it radio
network, mobile network or cable network etc. Worth mentioning is also the use of routing, which is simply a
selection of a path for data transmission.
