ipv4

Internet Protocol version 4 is a revision of Internet Protocol (IP) and even though it's been described already in 1980 it is still widely used in data communication over various networks. The data is sent in a form of datagrams. One of the most important breakthroughs in IPv4 is the fact it can be used regardless of the technology utilized for connecting the network device—be it radio network, mobile network or cable network etc. Worth mentioning is also the use of routing, which is simply a selection of a path for data transmission.
